5th Annual "Paws for the Cause" Pet Walk
Saturday, May 31, 2008

Almost 200 people with their canine buddies came to FAAS's pet walk on Saturday, May 31, to raise funds for the cats and dogs of the Attleboro Animal Shelter. A terrific success, this fun, family event included not only the walk, but

* dog contests with prizes for waggiest tail and best kisser
* an agility course
* Canine Good Citizen (CGC) testing
* face painting and Jumparoo for the kids
* two amazing protection dog demonstrations, and
* a reptile and bird of prey presentation!

The rain held off until the day was over, and many people spent the day with us. Following a beautiful blessing of the animals by Reverend Ken Boyle, our DJ, Mike Smith, did a wonderful job, kicking off the walk with the traditional "Who Let The Dogs Out" as the crowd moved off to Capron Park.

Throughout the day, people enjoyed the vendors and breed rescues who were there, and many happy dogs took advantage of a free massage! A delicious cookout lunch was provided by Ritz Dinette and prepared and served by members of Attleboro Moose Lodge 463, without whom this event would not have been possible. Both received the first Annual "Golden Paws" award.

Charlie

This year's walk was dedicated to Charlie, a one-year old Bullmastiff who
had end-stage kidney failure. This lively, friendly boy really enjoyed the Pet Walk - to look at him, you wouldn't even have known how sick he really was.

Charlie was a big hit with everyone at the Pet Walk who couldn't believe this great big dog was such a gentle giant in person! And he gave out many big Charlie kisses because, of course, everybody wanted one!

FAAS worked to give Charlie a great life for the time he had left, but, sadly, his disease caught up with him, and Charlie passed away on June 25. So many people helped raise money for Charlie's care by filling Charlie's Sky of Hope board, and we are so grateful to you all.

We are also grateful to Dr. Patricia Jordon for her help with Charlie's care.
